PUBLIC WORKS/UTILITY DEPARTMENT: FACILITIES MAINTENANCE
Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide
general up-keep, sanitation, and maintenance of City building
facilities and grounds. Employees in this classification perform
custodial and general maintenance work. Position is responsible for
providing a clean and environmentally safe working and business
conditions in buildings and facilities throughout the City for
employees and the general public.
Examples of Duties
Cleans, sanitizes, maintains, and provides for the general upkeep
of building facilities and grounds.
Provides custodial duties including cleaning rest rooms, kitchen
areas, and general business areas of City buildings and
facilities.
Dusts, washes windows and conducts various other custodial duties
associated with maintaining clean buildings and facilities.
Participates in the set-up and break down of tables, chairs, and
stages for events, daily meetings, and classes.
Empties trash containers, and other receptacles.
Vacuums carpets; sweeps and mops floors; dusts, cleans and polishes
furniture and woodwork.
Identifies and reports all maintenance problems; changes light
bulbs, air conditioner filters and assures air conditioner vents
are dust free.
Conducts general maintenance work, i.e., changing light bulbs,
cleaning air filters, repairing towel dispensers, painting.
Cleans bathroom toilets and sinks; replaces paper supplies and soap
in restrooms.
Utilizes various cleaning agents, mixing according to label
instructions, and using in accordance with prescribed safety
precautions and directions.
Stocks supplies as necessary; maintains inventory of all supplies
required to perform the duties of the position.
Inspects work upon completion to ensure conformance to prescribed
standards and to ensure environmental safety.
Picks up and delivers mail, packages, and agendas.
ADDITIONAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical
and appropriate assignment to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent; supplemented by
demonstrated ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the
work and some experience in custodial or janitorial work.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Employee shall obtain the National Incident Management System
ICS-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System and IS-700
National Incident Management System, An Introduction within six (6)
months of employment. The following courses are designed to provide
a baseline, as they introduce basic NIMS and ICS concepts and
provide the foundation for higher-level Emergency Operations
Center- (EOC), MACS-, and ICS-related training.
Supplemental Information
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to adhere to prescribed routines and practices.
Knowledge of, and ability to utilize materials, methods and
equipment used in janitorial work.
Ability to carry out assignments with minimal instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with supervisors.
Ability to work independently to carry out assignments to
completion.
Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work
ethic.
Ability to climb, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, sit and stand for
extended periods of time; ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Ability to work at heights up to 12 feet.
Ability to work in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees for extended
periods of time
Ability to with stand exposure to dust, mold, fiberglass and
various chemicals.
Ability to work flexible hours necessary for the efficient
operation of the department.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral,
diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of this job the employee
is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle,
or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel,
crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
While performing the essential functions of this job the employee
is occasionally required to push and/or pull over 50 pounds.
While performing the essential functions of this position the
employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and
toxic or caustic chemicals, work near moving mechanical parts, and
risk of electrical shock.
