Job Description:
Job Description Ensley Inc. is in search of an experienced
topside paver operator. The individual will operate the asphalt
paving machine and roller safely and efficiently. Must have
thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry
including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns,
aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction
and other details related to asphalt paving. Available to work
extended hours, including night work. Responsibilities and Duties:
-- Operate asphalt paver and or screed to apply asphalt per plans
and specifications to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met.
Also, must perform additional tasks of other positions as needed.
-- Screed operation on the asphalt paver involves making normal
adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade and finished cross
section of asphalt material via screed controls. -- Ability to
operate or initiative to learn to operate other equipment required
on an asphalt crew (skid steer, roller, trucks, compactor) --
Conduct preventative maintenance measures such as oil, grease,
service and make normal operating adjustments to the equipment --
Ability to operate asphalt paver/screed within designated area with
attention to detail and emphasis on craftsmanship -- Ability to
guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to machine hopper
when operating paver. -- Manipulates hand or foot levers to control
movements of machine spreads and levels asphalt on subgrade of
related surfaces such as parking lots, streets, roadways etc. --
Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry
including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns,
aggregate size, job specifications, mix designs, compaction and
other details related to asphalt paving. Distribute, break down,
compress, and give a finished surface to cooling asphalt. -- Drive
paver in overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling
subgrade and asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness. --
Operate the paver and other heavy equipment in a safe and
appropriate manner, performing at industry and company standards.
-- Preheat paving screed before placement of asphalt and monitor
and control temperature settings of the asphalt mixture. -- Operate
the Paver controls to lower the screed auger, control the hopper,
and navigate the direction of the paver. -- Align the paving
machine into position when receiving asphalt by dump truck and
maintain constant flow of asphalt into hopper. -- Observe
distribution of paving materials along screed and control the
direction of the screed to eliminate voids at curbs and joints. --
Understand work directions and communicate effectively with job
site supervisors and fellow employees. -- Rake and shovel. --
Determines speed and direction of machine based on knowledge of
compressibility of material under changing temperatures. -- Assist
in the placement, moving, and dismantling of signs, barricades,
cones and other traffic control devices if needed -- Follow all
safety requirements imposed by the company. -- Engage in manual
labor work when needed. -- Operate machinery with safety. --
Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment. -- Report
mechanical problems to supervisor in a timely manner. -- Performs
other related duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skills: -- At
least 3-4 years of experience level in asphalt industry/asphalt
roller/operator -- Must have a safety-first attitude. Strict
adherence to safety requirements and procedures is required. --
Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers,
supervisors, and the general public at all times. -- Must be
willing to travel and work away from home when required. Must be
willing to work nights and weekends when necessary. Physical
Abilities: -- Frequently lifts and/or moves objects weighing up to
50 pounds, and occasionally objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
-- Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in
varying weather conditions. Regularly works near heavy equipment
and moving machinery. -- Work environment periodically exposes the
employees to high asphalt levels of noise and dust that is
typically associated with a construction project. -- Work may
involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction
sites such as, grease, gasoline, diesel fuel and hot asphalt mix.
-- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods
of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field
conditions. -- Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry objects,
use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time
without fatigue. Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with
arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
